Newly hatched western hemlock looper larvae successfully reared on forced foliage of American larch

, : Newly hatched western hemlock looper larvae successfully reared on forced foliage of American larch. Bi-m. Res. Notes, Ottawa, 24: 1, 7 p

Small dormant branches of Larix laricina were collected in the winter in Canada, kept at 70 degrees F and 70-80% relative humidity with the cut ends in water (which resulted in the development of foliage within ten days) and used for the laboratory rearing of newly-hatched larvae of Lambdina fiscellaria lugubrosa (Hulst). After the larvae had moulted to the second instar, branches of Tsuga canadensis were used for the remainder of the larval stage.
