Noise reduction in rotary cutters

, : Noise reduction in rotary cutters. Derev. Prom, 15: 12, 9-10

Describes noise measurements and analyses made on a thicknesser with a photo-recording apparatus that enabled the noise spectrum to be recorded every second. Results (shown in graphs, with confidence limits) are given on the effect of width of workpiece, thickness of workpiece, feed speed, and chip thickness, on the noise produced when working air-dry Pine. Width of workpiece (i.e. length of knife contact) had the greatest effect on noise intensity, noise increasing with increasing width.
