Notes on the genus Mentha (Labiatae)

, : Notes on the genus Mentha (Labiatae). Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society. 65: 2, 250-253

The genus Preslia Opiz is reduced to sectional status within Mentha for the time being. The species commonly known as M. rotundifolia (L.) Huds. is not that described by Linnaeus as M. spicata var. rotundifolia, which is a hybrid. The earliest legitimate name is M. suaveolens Ehrh. The distinction between M. spicata and M. longifolia is now based on ploidy level, the latter-being hairy diploids and the former either glabrous or hairy tetraploids.
