Relationship between bovine mastitis and the bacterial contamination of meat

, : Relationship between bovine mastitis and the bacterial contamination of meat. Medycyna wet, 24: 662-665

Of 357 cattle examined 146 were cows with mastitis and the remaining 211 were mastitis-free controls. The udders of the former group yielded 108 strains of Staphylococcus, 14 strains of Streptococcus and two coliform organisms. Other tissues of the mastitis cows yielded 247 staphylococcal and 23 streptococcal strains. In 42 cows of this group the staphylococci and streptococci isolated from the udder and those from other tissues showed identical in vitro characteristics.
