Report on the use of different methods for logging Spruce pulpwood

, : Report on the use of different methods for logging Spruce pulpwood. Tied., Metsateho, Helsinki. 255, 26

The methods studied covered felling in autumn and winter, the preparation of assortments of different lengths, trimming by axe or power saw, and stacking the pulpwood or gathering it into groups or bundles ready for skidding. The use of a power saw for trimming to the customary requirements reduced trimming time by 4-16% or, when branch stubs 2-5 cm. long were permitted, by 31-41% compared with axe trimming; trimming by power saw was slightly quicker in autumn than in winter.
