Self-cure phenomenon in Ascaridia numidae infection of Numida meleagris

, : Self-cure phenomenon in Ascaridia numidae infection of Numida meleagris. Atti Soc. ital. Sci. vet, Istituto di Parassitologia, Universita di Pisa, Italy., 24: 555-557

Of 18 25-day-old Numida meleagris infected with 500 Ascaridia numidae ova, 9 were reinfected with 2 doses of 100, 000 ova, one given on the 50th day and the other on the 65th day. The group which was not reinfected reached a peak faecal egg count of 20, 000 e.p.g. on the 64th day of infection. This slowly fell to 3, 000 to 4, 000 e.p.g. by the 100th day. At autopsy on the 70th, 80th and 100th days, averages of 59, 67 and 18 adult A. numidae were recovered, respectively.
