Some effects on the aphid Myzus persicae of ingesting antibiotics incorporated into artificial diets

, : Some effects on the aphid Myzus persicae of ingesting antibiotics incorporated into artificial diets. Journal of Insect Physiology. 17: 7, 1333-1347

The study reported was undertaken in California to determine whether antibiotics adversely affect the survival, maturation and reproduction of Myzus persicae (Sulz.) and to lay the foundation for further investigations on the role of symbiotes in the nutrition and metabolism of the aphid. The following is virtually the author's abstract. Ten antibiotics were incorporated individually at different concentrations into artificial diets fed to the aphids through a membrane.
