The bacterial, protozoal and oscillospira counts were higher on the urea diet. The counts were highest 2 h after feeding on both diets. All counts were higher for the buffalo than for the two breeds of zebu, but only the oscillospira counts were significantly so. Gas production was higher on the urea diet. It was higher in the buffalo than the zebu but not significantly.
