The contact phase of blood coagulation

, : The contact phase of blood coagulation. The contact phase of blood coagulation, Oxford: Blackwell Scientific Publications., xv+160. Price: 35s,

The observation that blood clots much more rapidly in untreated than in paraffin-coated glass containers established that a glass surface actively promotes clotting. The major part of the coagulant activity of a surface is exerted on two plasma components, the Hageman and PTA clotting factors. These two factors and a foreign surface are known as the contact system. The author describes his own experiments on the contact system.
