Field and laboratory trials were carried out on alluvial meadow, leached meadow cinnamon, meadow bog and humic calcareous soils. Nitrofen, diquat, paraquat, dinoseb acetate and diphenamid at normal rates did not significantly affect soil cellulose decomposing activity; monolinuron, linu-ron, trifluralin, propachlor and desmetryne increased it for 3-7 weeks.
