The effects on agriculture of the growth and prosperity of the South African economy

, : The effects on agriculture of the growth and prosperity of the South African economy. Ann Univ Stellenbosch Sera 41(5): 311-336

An attempt has been made to assess the effects of the rapid growth of the South African economy, during the past 20 years, in the agricultural sector. Experience in other developed nations has shown that a tendency exists for agriculture to benefit proportionately less from economic growth than certain other sectors of the economy. The examination of the position of agriculture in South Africa reveals a marked'similarity, in many respects, to this overseas experience. Despite large increases in the volume of physical production during the post World War II years, the overall economic position of the agricultural sector has particularly during the past decade, shown a relative decline.
