The influence of location and cultural system on expression and selection of yield in segregating populations of the tomato

, : The influence of location and cultural system on expression and selection of yield in segregating populations of the tomato. Diss. Abstr, 26: 4943-4

A series of experiments to test the effect of cultural practices on selection for yield and fruit size were conducted at Ames, Iowa, and at La Molina, Peru. The relative yield performance of entries did not change at Ames; but it did at La Molina. The fruit size performance, however, was not consistent at either location. Higher heritability estimates were observed under 3-ft. spacing than under 1-ft. spacing, suggesting that variation induced by competition was a factor.
