The measurement of drying rates in thin-layers of ryegrass seed

, : The measurement of drying rates in thin-layers of ryegrass seed. Journal of Agricultural Engineering Research. 16: 3, 192-212

Modifications made to an experimental drier, and the computer programmes used for analysing the data are described, and initial results given from experiments with seed of perennial ryegrass S23. Samples of directly harvested seed at initial moisture contents of 117 to 40% (DM basis) were dried at air temperatures of 27.7-61.7 degrees C. It was concluded that the values of a drying constant, K, could be used to predict drying curves by means of an exponential series equation.
