The phenomenon of dissymmetry in the morphological characters of the vegetative and reproductive organs of Scots Pine and Spruce in Karelia

, : The phenomenon of dissymmetry in the morphological characters of the vegetative and reproductive organs of Scots Pine and Spruce in Karelia. Lesoved, 6, 55-61

Reports an investigation of the frequency of right- and left-handed spiral arrangements of the cone scales and of the needles or fascicles of vegetative shoots. Both types of arrangement were generally, but not always, present in the same tree. Significant differences were found in the weight and spiral geometry of the shoots and cones of the two types, and in the quality of the seeds (investigated in Spruce only).
