The southern sclerotial rot of apples

, : The southern sclerotial rot of apples. Zasc. Rast, 11: 8, 16-17

In the sub-tropical areas of the Krasnodar territory Sclerotinia rolfsii caused up to 40% mortality in apple transplants. The optimum temperature for the development of the fungus was 26-30 degrees C., although it grew even at 64 degrees C. and short periods of low temperatures down to-16 degrees C. appeared to stimulate it. In apple orchards and nurseries trees on both dwarfing clonal rootstocks and vigourous seedling rootstocks were affected, and serious damage was also found in stoolbeds.
