A critical examination is made of the Swiss practice of subsidizing the costs involved in renewing and adapting farm buildings. The present system of state contributions calculated on a percentage basis of the total building costs encourages costly methods of construction. The optimal economic effect which can be expected from improving or replanning farm buildings is more important than the cost calculation.
