The utilization and translocation by micro-organisms of carbon-14 derived from the decomposition of plant residues in soil

, : The utilization and translocation by micro-organisms of carbon-14 derived from the decomposition of plant residues in soil. Journal of General Microbiology. 66: 3, 339-348

In experiments with agar, sterile and non-sterile soil, 14C labelled plant fragments were incorporated as a carbon source. 14C-utilization was demonstrated by evolution of 14CO2 and by autoradiograms showing 14C within micro-organisms. Translocation was indicated by labelled structures occurring on coverslips at a distance from the substrate and by labelling sclerotia winch had accumulated 14C nearly 1 cm from the plant residue.
