Formulae are suggested for expressing degree and frequency of transgression in the F2. In crosses of B. juncea 'Neosypajuscajasja 2', having 0.85% of essential oil in the seeds, with Nosovskij spring rape, having 0.28%, the F1 had 0.71% and in the F2, 30% exceeded the seed parent, the maximum being 1.26%. Transgression for essential-oil content was more marked still in hybrids between B. juncea and B. carinata but less so in those between B. carinata and B. nigra.
