Spatial analysis to determine priority conservation areas of dry ecosystems in two interandean valleys of Valle del Cauca-Colombia

, : Spatial analysis to determine priority conservation areas of dry ecosystems in two interandean valleys of Valle del Cauca-Colombia. Lyonia 8(2): 69-83

Dry vegetation formations are part of the most threatened ecosystems worldwide. In Colombia dry forests exist in 1.5% of their original extension because they have been transformed mostly to agroecosystems. This, joined with their high endemism, the unique adaptation of organisms to extreme conditions and their importance as genetic banks reveal the necessity to characterize them and establish conservation actions that guarantee the sustainability of the existent ecological processes.
