Detailed plankton zonation of Eocene borehole sequences as a data base for bio- and magnetostratigraphy

, : Detailed plankton zonation of Eocene borehole sequences as a data base for bio- and magnetostratigraphy. Foldtani Kozlony 132(3): 325-354

In the Transdanubian Range, Eocene nannoplankton and planktonic foraminifera from five borehole sections were studied in detail. These sequences are rather thick, tectonically not disturbed, and were suitable for magnetostratigraphic measurements. The aim of this article is to make the raw biostratigraphic database available to other specialists. The most complete sequence is the Somlovasarhely Sv-1, (SW), where the nannoplankton zones range from NP 14 to NP 19, and the planktonic foraminifera zones range from Globigerinatheka s. subconglobata to Globigerinatheka semiinvoluta. In the other four boreholes to the NE, sedimentation began later, in the NP 16 and the Morozovella lehneri zone. In all the studied sections the Eocene was overlain by Late Oligocene sediments with an erosional gap.
