Describes the different ancient series of the Niger river bend region in the Sudan, French West Africa, and their relationships with each other. All the series rest unconformably on Birrimian basement rocks. Metamorphic facies represent granitization. The series constitute the Nigerian system and are transgressive on the Liberian shield. The age may be Cambrian, Infracambrian, or upper Precambrian. Correlations with other regions of west Africa are discussed.
