Although the Pianets basin is a small one, the deposited Upper Eocene-Oligocene sediments show wide spectrum of facies and depositional systems--from terrestrial to deep-sea clastic turbidites. The sedimentary sequences and structural data indicate that the basin underwent a complete strike-slip cycle of evolution. It was formed by dextral transtension that resulted in various sub-aerial alluvial fan-delta systems along the boards during the initial stages. The tectonically predestined subsidence was imposed over marine deposition - brackish and shallow marine clastic, including patch-reefs on borderlands, gradually passing into turbidites basinward. The fragmented basement caused deposition of turbidite-like sediments in the depocenters. These can be classified as derived from different turbiditic systems mainly fed by alluvial fan-deltas or by sedimentary failure from shelfless mud/sand rich ramp--point-source, slope aprons and multiple fed, with all components or complicated by cascade subsystems and by-pass zones. The observed various facies associations make the Pianets basin a good example for strike-slip basins sedimentary-fill evolution, related to early extension of the metamorphic domes exhumation.
