Geological distribution and fossil assemblage of Heterocorallia

, : Geological distribution and fossil assemblage of Heterocorallia. Xiandai Dizhi = Geoscience 15(1): 46-48

The earliest Heterocorals have been found in Lower Devonian of the Wenshan district, Yunnan of China. The Heterocorals got their climax of evolution during Early Carboniferous, and were extinct after the Early Permian. There are 4 fossil assemblages divided. The authors discuss the characteristic of every fossil assemblage, the patterns of distribution and immigration, and the ecologic environments. The fossil assemblage is as follow: Tetraphyllia Assemblage of Early Devonian; Oligophylloides-Heterophyllia Assemblage of Late Devonian; Pentaphyllia-Hexaphyllia-Radiciphyllia Assemblage of Early Carboniferous; Dichophyllia-Heterophyllia-Hexaphylloides Assemblage of Early Permian. The authors point out that the South China Plate may be the deriving center of Heterocorallia and the Heterocoral is one of tropic-subtropic to warm temperate zone biotic community.
