Metamorphosis and equilibrium in chondrites

, : Metamorphosis and equilibrium in chondrites. Journal of Geophysical Research 72(14): 3609-3612

Metamorphism of chondrites and variations in the iron oxide content of their magnesium minerals are unrelated phenomena. This can be seen from the rare gas content and from a number of petrological observations on chondrites. The terms 'equilibrated' and 'unequilibrated' chondrites are misleading, unless one wants to refer to conditions of preexisting material from which the chondrites formed.
