Observations morphologiques dans le Sahel du Niger

, : Observations morphologiques dans le Sahel du Niger. Revue de Geomorphologie Dynamique 4-6(Pages 49-58

Bioclimatically, the Sahel area (Niger Republic) is transitional between the Sahara desert and the savanna of the Sudan; geologically, it is an area of accumulation between crystalline masses. The landscape is characterized by flat surfaces and broad valleys. The plateaus, mesas, buttes, and terraces are covered with ferruginous crusts. Solifluction features are developed on slopes, and sand is distributed widely over all landforms. Four erosion surfaces were formed during Mesozoic and Tertiary time; by the end of the Tertiary the evolution had changed to one of alternating humid and arid cycles.
