In the 60 kilometers between Neussargues and Teldes in France, multiple dislocations in the granitic or gneissic basement, all trending west-northwest, are observed in the 35 kilometers between Lugarde and Teldes, and in the other 25 kilometers, where the basement is not visible, a series of volcanos marks the line between the Cezallier and the Cantal volcanic massifs. It would thus appear that the Margeride fault continues west to the vicinity of Bort, that it is a major fault, some 110 kilometers long, and that it forms a definite western tectonic boundary to the Cantal massif.
