Petrographic evidence relating to movement on the Thackaringa-Pinnacles fault, Broken Hill District

, : Petrographic evidence relating to movement on the Thackaringa-Pinnacles fault, Broken Hill District. Proceedings - Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy 214(Pages 95-101

A dextral transcurrent displacement of some 20,000 feet on the east-west Thackaringa-Pinnacles fault that cuts across northeast-striking outcrops and fold structures of the Willyama complex in the Broken Hill lead-zinc district, New South Wales, was postulated in 1922 on the basis of correlation of banded aplites exposed at localities north and south of the fault zone. This measurement has been confirmed by data from recent petrographic studies which demonstrate a similar displacement of the orthopyroxene isograd dividing rocks of two different metamorphic zones associated with Willyama high-grade regional metamorphism.
