Problems and progress in the study of the mechanism of Quaternary climate change

, : Problems and progress in the study of the mechanism of Quaternary climate change. Diqiu Kexue Jinzhan = Advance in Earth Science 13(3): 265-272

Since 1950s, when Emiliani obtained the first curve of oxygen isotope records in deep ocean sediments, the classic glaciation hypothesis developed by Penck has been replaced by new discoveries which demonstrate that during the Quaternary, more than four glacial-interglacial cycles occurred. In recent years, new discoveries of climate instability during the last glacial period have provided an opportunity to study the characteristics and mechanisms of millennial-scale climate change. However, paleoclimatologists are still puzzled by the mechanism of climate change in the development of glacial-interglacial cycles, synchronistic climate change between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, and the operation of climate instability.
