Problems in temperature control of gravimeters

, : Problems in temperature control of gravimeters. Geophysics 7(2): 155-168

The theoretical considerations entering into the design of thermostatically controlled ovens for gravimeters are presented. The author points out that to obtain the most uniform temperature distribution without the use of excessive amounts of material, plural thermostat control points on the heater element are desirable. To reduce long-time fluctuations it is recommended that dual thermostating be employed in which an inner controlled-shell is surrounded by an outer thermostated layer held at an approximately constant temperature several degrees lower than the temperature of the inner shell.
