Re-examination on K-Ar age of the Kumano acidic rocks in Kii Peninsula, Southwest Japan

, : Re-examination on K-Ar age of the Kumano acidic rocks in Kii Peninsula, Southwest Japan. Chishitsugaku Zasshi = Journal of the Geological Society of Japan 104(6): 387-394

Biotite K-Ar ages are determined for the three units of the Kumano Acidic Rocks in the southeastern coast of the Kii Peninsula, Southwest Japan. The Konogi Rhyolite of the lowest member of the Kumano Acidic Rocks, the Granite porphyry of the main Unit of the Kumano Acidic Rocks, and the cone sheet give 14.2+ or -0.2 Ma, 14.4+ or -0.1 Ma and 14.3+ or -0.2 Ma, respectively, which coincide with each other within an error. These results suggest that the duration of the igneous activity of the Kumano Acidic Rocks was shorter than some hundreds thousand years. These ages also correspond to the revised age of the Muro Volcanic Rocks, 40 km north of the Kumano Acidic rocks, within a error of several hundred thousand years.
