The Lower Cretaceous (Albian) ammonite genera Leconteites and Brewericeras

, : The Lower Cretaceous (Albian) ammonite genera Leconteites and Brewericeras. U S

Lower Cretaceous (Albian) ammonites from the Pacific coast of North America designated as Leconteites lecontei, L. modestum (in part), Puzosigella mulleri, P. taffi, P. rogersi, and P. perrinsmithi (in part) are regarded as forming one variable but intergrading species to which the name L. lecontei (Anderson) is applied. Puzosigella sacramentica (Anderson) is regarded as a separate species of Leconteites, and the name Puzosigella is rejected. A new subspecies, L. lecontei whiteavesi, is recognized from Albian beds of Queen Charlotte Islands. Genus Brewericeras is regarded as a direct descendant of Leconteites and contains two species: B. breweri (Gabb) and B. hulenense (Anderson).
