, : The basal slump of the Miocene Nashino Formation formed by caldera collapse, western Sendai, northeast Japan. Chikyu Kagaku = Earth Science 59(5): 301-311

The Upper Miocene Nashino Formation mostly corresponds to the caldera-collapse breccia of the Shirasawa caldera at its eastern margin. The base of the Nashino Formation is not an unconformity, but mostly a low angle fault. The footwall is the Middle Miocene Hatatate and Tsunaki Formations. The fault was later folded by the Kagitori-Ayashi monocline, and after the unfolding, it becomes listric and concave upward shape. The hanging wall Nashino Formation slid down to the center of the caldera. Such abnormal stratigraphic relation is explained to be a slump fault around the margin of high-angle ring fault, expected in closer to the center of the caldera. Part of the Nashino Formation conformably lies on the Tsunaki Formation, which represents the over flows from the caldera center.
