Une nouvelle methode d'etude des regions calcaires (quelques indications pratiques)

, : Une nouvelle methode d'etude des regions calcaires (quelques indications pratiques). Revue de Geomorphologie Dynamique 1-4: 45-48

Formulates a method for determining the rate of erosion in limestone terrain, based on calculation of the average calcium carbonate content (hardness) of the water and the total annual runoff. The rate of erosion is expressed as the thickness of limestone removed annually from the surface. This is of value in comparing rates of erosion in regions of different climates ad in estimating the time necessary in a given climate to erode a bed of limestone of a given thickness. In dry tropical climates, limestone forms the high relief and granite the lowlands. In cold oceanic climates, the reverse is true. The rate of erosion of limestone in a given region is therefore also an index to the rate of erosion of granite.
