Susceptibility of Aedes fluviatilis to infection by Dirofilaria immitis was tested experimentally. Mortality of infected mosquitoes was greater than that of uninfected insects. Larval development of D. immitis was not synchronized and in many instances, the worms did not develop beyond the first larval stage. In a small proportion of mosquitoes third-stage larvae of D. immitis were detected 14-22 days after the infecting blood meal. One or two, and a maximum of six third-stage larvae/mosquito were found.
