Le dimorphisme sexuel prosomatique de Walckenaera acuminata Blackwall, 1833 (Araneae, Erigonidae)

, : Le dimorphisme sexuel prosomatique de Walckenaera acuminata Blackwall, 1833 (Araneae, Erigonidae). Bulletin de la Societe Zoologique de France, 1062: 125-132

The male of W. acuminata differs from males of other Ergionidae on account of its lack of sexual gnathocoxal glands and the presence of a periscope-like cephalic tigella. This tigella was studied with a scanning electron microscope and histological sections. It bears at its top 3 types of hairs and contains glands, apparently unicellular, opening via excretory pores on its surface. The secretion is undoubtedly involved in mating and may carry sexual pheromones.
