Peculiarities of the development of Chrysomya albiceps Wd. (Diptera, Calliphoridae)

, : Peculiarities of the development of Chrysomya albiceps Wd. (Diptera, Calliphoridae). Entomologicheskoe Obozrenie, 641: 79-84

The heat constant (185.5.degree.), lower threshold of development (10.2.degree.) and diurnal and hourly indices of development were determined for C. albiceps. The feasibility of using temperature parameters for retrospective calculation of the onset of development was confirmed for flies. The dates for appearance of egg-laying on a corpse may be used in establishing the time of death in forensic medical practice. The fact of an increase in temperature inside a mass of feeding C. albiceps larvae to 40.degree. (at an external temperature of 20-21.degree.) was established. The magnitude, the maximal temperature inside the larval mass and the time it takes to reach it depend on the environmental temperature, and the age and number of larvae.
