The world genera and species of the family Cunaxidae

, : The world genera and species of the family Cunaxidae. Zeitschrift fuer Angewandte Zoologie, 712: 135-150

The cunaxid mites are predators and cosmopolitans. The 1st species was described by Hermann (1804). Thor (1902) erected the family Cunaxidae with 3 genera. Vitzthum (1943) and Baker and Hoffmann (1948) recognized 6 genera to this family. Smiley (1975) made a generic revision and Den Heyer (1975-1981) described many new genera and new species. According to him, the family Cunaxidae comprises 4 subfamilies, 6 tribus and 15 genera. Two more genera were described by Gupta (1980) and Tseng (1980). Until the end of 1983, 124 valid spp. from all over the world were reported. A complete catalog and all papers on cunaxid mites are available at the Zoological Institute, Zoology Museum, University of Hamburg.
