An inquiry into the susceptibility of Culex pipiens quinquefadciatus to dengue virus

, : An inquiry into the susceptibility of Culex pipiens quinquefadciatus to dengue virus. Jishengchong Yu Yixue Kunchong Xuebao 10(1): 21-24

The dengue fever/dengue haemorrhaig fever is the most important arbovirus disease in the world. Its vectors are well known, including Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus and several potential ones of adenine mosquitoes in some South Pacific Islands. In contrast to the previous studies, Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus has been reported to be able to transmit the virus in the laboratory by several workers in China. However, with only one exception, negative results were obtained in all further studies. The present paper is an inquiry into the problem, in combining with the results of our recent studies. Our conclusion is that this culicine mosquito is not a biological transmitting vetor of the disease.
