Gnezditvena razsirjenost in velikost populacije kosca Crex crex v Sloveniji Leta 2004

, : Gnezditvena razsirjenost in velikost populacije kosca Crex crex v Sloveniji Leta 2004. Acrocephalus Ljubljana 26(127): 171-179

In 2004, the third national Corncrake Crex crex census was carried out. Standard census method was used and 96 volunteers took part, who counted 391 singing males during 162 night field visits. The total number of singing males was by 15.7% smaller than recorded in the years 1992 - 93 and by 30.6% smaller than in 1999. Altogether, 341 Corncrakes were recorded at the eight most important areas, the rest (50) at other smaller localities. Corncrakes were recorded in all macroregions of Slovenia in 33 UTM squares (10 x 10 km). The highest number was recorded in Dinaric (240) and Alpine (110) regions. The author presumes that this indicates population decline in the 1999- 2004 period. The highest decline in comparison with the year 1999 was recorded at Ljubljansko barje (central Slovenia), where the number decreased by 56.3%. This contributed to the largest share in the decline of the entire Slovene population. A single important site with increased population was Breginjski Stol (Julian Alps, NW Slovenia). There were also fewer localities with Corncrakes, even though the number of the surveyed localities was doubled. The prospect of conserving the important population level of this bird in Slovenia is bleak. The only chance to increase the population is the introduction of appropriate conservation measures in the country's most important areas, especially Ljubljansko barje.
