Seasonal populations of citrus insects and mites in commercial groves

, : Seasonal populations of citrus insects and mites in commercial groves. Florida Ent 43(2): 49-57

Populations of 19 species of insects and mites destructive to citrus were measured by standardized methods each month from January 1951 through December 1958. These data, taken from the same 650 trees throughout Florida, were graphed to portray the long-term average or "normal" abundance for each month; the graphs also show the limits within which seasonal populations are likely to fall and indicate the time of year when greatest departures from the mean may be expected. Each species exhibited a distinctive cycle of population change related to seasons, and the pattern was quite similar each year. The information is used in forecasting destructive populations and in studying ecological relationships.
