The fecundity of some herring from Seal Rock, Washington

, : The fecundity of some herring from Seal Rock, Washington. Copeia (3): 176-181

The fecundity of 53 female Clupea pallasii was a function of length and age. In a collection of fish ranging from 144 to 220 mm. standard length and from 2 to 8 years, the fecundity varied from 6307 to 40,918 eggs. The length-fecundity ratio fitted the general formula, F = C Ln. The "n" for the entire collection was 4.71; for the different age classes the "n" varied from 3.46 to 3.89. Senile herring showed some loss of their ova producing efficiency.
