Blood pressure and weight

, : Blood pressure and weight. Arch Internal Med 44(6): 877-881

Records of 2,042 registrants at the Mayo Clinic (959 [male] and 1082 [female]) were divided into 6 groups according to weight (Group 1, 26-50% underweight, Group 2, 11-25% underweight, Group 3, normal, Group 4, 11-25% overweight, Group 5, 26-50% overweight, Group 6, 51-75% over-weight). An "almost steplike rise" in systolic pressure was observed in [male] [male] from Group 1 to 6, and in [female] [female] from Group 1 to 4. Inconstancy in diastolic figures is attributed to lack of uniformity in technic and instability of diastolic pressure.
