Bordetella bronchiseptica-induced porcine atrophic rhinitis

, : Bordetella bronchiseptica-induced porcine atrophic rhinitis. Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association 141: 1467-1468

Bordetella bronchiseptica was isolated from the ethmoid turbinates of pigs from nine out of ten epizootics of porcine atrophic rhinitis in Indiana. The disease was reproduced in experimental pigs by intranasal instillation of a pure culture of B. bronchiseptica, and the bacterium was reisolated, in pure culture, from the ethmoid turbinates of these experimental pigs. The turbinate material from which the culture was isolated also reproduced the disease, but a bacteria-free filtrate of this material did not.
