Classification of the syndromes of cervical osteochondrosis

, : Classification of the syndromes of cervical osteochondrosis. Zh Nevropatol Psikhiat Im S S Korsakova 65(2): 199-203

Based on a clinical and radiological study of 300 patients with cervical osteochondrosis and an electromyographic study, it is concluded that osteochondrosis does not produce only compressive radicular and spinal syndromes (including the posterior vascular spinal syndrome). The receptors from the vertebral column degenerate, become a source of pathological impulses and cause pathological reflex disorders in the region of the shoulder, hand, chest and head. These reflex syndromes are manifested by: neurodystrophic changes in periarticular tissues and other fibrous tissues (osteofibrosis, periarthritis-humeroscapularis, epicondylitis-brachialis, scalenus syndrome, cervicalgia, etc.); musculotonic disorders (contracture phenomena in the course of the above syndromes; and neurovascular disorders (vascular component in the shoulder-hand syndrome, reflex vascular symptoms in the vertebral artery syndrome, and in cardialgias).
