Contractile protein from liver mitochondria

, : Contractile protein from liver mitochondria. Tsitologiya 5(3): 338-339

An actomyosin-like protein was obtained from rat liver mitochondria by acidifying to pH 5.5 the centrifugate remaining after the mitochondria were destroyed by ultrasound and centrifuged off. This protein had considerable ATP-ase activity, stimulated by the addition of Mg++ions. Addition of 2.5 x 10-3 [image] ATP to the protein solution caused a sharp fall in viscosity followed by a slow rise in proportion to the enzymatic splitting of the ATP.
