Determination of Sr90 and Th228 in biological materials

, : Determination of Sr90 and Th228 in biological materials. Health Physics 9: 232-235

Methods have been developed for the analysis of Sr90 and Th228 in dog feces. The methods can be used for other biological materials. The Sr90 determination is an adaption of the Sr(NO3)2 precipitation method to separate Sr and Ca. An initial basic precipitation separates Sr90 from a troublesome, unidentified constituent of the samples. In the determination of Th228, 2 precipitations with H2O2, first at pH2 and then at pH9, precede the coprecipitation of Th228 with ceric m-nitro-benzoate. Finally Th228 is obtained carrier free using an ion exchange column.
