Die Wasserpermeabilitat des Proto-plasmas auf Grund des Fickschen Diffusionsgesetzes

, : Die Wasserpermeabilitat des Proto-plasmas auf Grund des Fickschen Diffusionsgesetzes. Ber Schweiz Bot Ges 58: 73-122

Fick's law of diffusion has been applied to the permeation of water in a similar way as it is used for the permeation of dissolved substances. Thus the process of plasmolysis, deplasmolysis and the counter-permeation of dissolved substances in the cell and water out of the cell has been mathematically treated and the resulting formulae experimentally tested. The formulae run: (1) for plasmolysis [image], and (2) for deplasmolysis [image] and (3) for the time when a shrinking protoplast reaches its minimum volume by plasmolysis before it starts to re-expand by deplasmolysis [image]. The symbols have the following meaning: g= degree of plasmolysis (quotient of the volume of the plasmoly-zed to the normal protoplast); Cd= stronger molar concn. (for plasmolysis outside the cytoplasm, for deplasmolysis in the cell sap); Cd= weaker molar concn. (for plasmolysis in the cell sap, for deplasmolysis outside the cytoplasm); Cl=concn. difference CD-Cd. Q= quotient surface volume of the protoplast; Pl= constant of permeation to the plasmolyzing substance; P2= constant of permeation to water; t= time required to produce g; T= time required to produce minimum volume (time of plasmoly-sis).
