Duration of the anticholinesterase effect of certain organic phosphorus compounds

, : Duration of the anticholinesterase effect of certain organic phosphorus compounds. Biull Eksptl Biol I Med [transl J 52(11): 1288-1290

Translated from Biull. Eksptl. Biol. i Med. 52(11) 69-72. 1961. A comparison was made of the anticholinesterase effect produced by armine, phosarbine and diiso-propylfluoro-phosphate (DFP). The activity of cholinesterase of the blood, brain, spinal cord and muscles was determined by Plattner-Hestrin's method (4). The preparations were injected subcutaneously in the maximal (tolerance) doses. Cholinesterase activity of blood and muscles was restored within 2-3 days, of the brain[long dash]within 7-12 days after armine and phosarbine injection. The initial level of the blood cholinesterase activity was re-established 1-week after DFP injection, whereas that of the brain required almost 2 months. It is suggested that spontaneous reactivation of a part of phosphorylated cholinesterase occurs under the effect of armine and phosarbine (as distinct from the action of DFP); this provided a more rapid restoration of the enzyme activity.
