Effect of the mountain climate of the Zailiiskii Alatau on the activity of some enzymes involved in carbohydrate-phosphorous metabolism in the potato

, : Effect of the mountain climate of the Zailiiskii Alatau on the activity of some enzymes involved in carbohydrate-phosphorous metabolism in the potato. Tr Inst Bot Akad Nauk Kaz Ssr 20: 81-92

Three varieties of potatoes ("Katarin", "Rannyaya roza", and "Berlichingen") were grown in a field at different altitudes (775 m, 1380 m, and 1940 m above sea level). Activity of enzymes (phosphorylase, phosphoglucomutase, apyrase, amylase)was determined in the leaves and tubers of plants during budding, extensive flowering, when the tops began to die off, and when tubers had reached complete maturity. In the leaves phosphorylase activity was higher and phosphoglucomutase and apyrase activities were lower in plants grown at an altitude of 1940 m. In the tubers of these plants the activities of phosphoglucomutase, apyrase, and amylase were lower than in the tubers of plants growing in other test plots. These plants were physiologically younger at the end of the growing season.
