Experimental researches on the influence of various tumors on the ultrasonic field

, : Experimental researches on the influence of various tumors on the ultrasonic field. Acta Ophthalmol 44(2): 253-260

An experimental study was made of the relative changes in sound pressure caused by 12 tumors in certain places of the ultrasonic field. Some tumors do not greatly alter the curve illustrating sound pressures if water is used as a control substance. Some tumors produce a great lowering of sound pressure and displacement of the maximum. Great differences can then occur in different places within the tumors. Much lower sound pressures were obtained with 10 Mc than with 6 Mc. When applying the results to the ultrasonic diagnosis of intraocular tumors, it is important to first examine the tumor in several different directions, secondly to use high amplification and thirdly to use in case of need a lower frequency, for instance 6 Me.
